Shabbat Services
Friday, November 8, 2024 • 7 Cheshvan 5785
7:00 PM - 8:30 PMUniversity Synagogue“Judaism And Democracy” will be Rabbi Rachlis’ topic at Shabbat services, led by him and Cantor Braier. What have we learned and how do we feel about the United States as a result of Tuesday’s election? Are we more hopeful, more worried and/or more confused? Is the idea of “We The People” just a dream or will Americans eventually become less polarized?
The Torah portion for this Shabbat, “Lech Lecha,” describes Abraham and Sarah’s courageous journey to create a new reality, leaving the idea of battling deities and tribal rivalries behind. Is America capable of evolving into “a more perfect union”?
We will also remember before Mourner’s Kaddish, the tragedy of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, the first major event of the Holocaust on November 9, 1938.
