7:00 PM - 8:30 PMUniversity Synagogue

7:00 p.m. “My Spiritual Journey” will be Rabbi Rachlis’ topic at Shabbat services, led by him and Cantor Braier. Recently, Rabbi Rachlis was honored by the Reconstructionist Movement for his 50 years in the rabbinate and he was asked to reflect on why he became a rabbi and how he has shaped and been shaped by Reconstructionism and by the congregations and people whom he has served.

Some University Synagogue members have asked him to share more of his reflections, which he’ll do at this service. Rabbi Rachlis will describe his childhood, raised by immigrant parents who fled European anti-Semitism, his political involvements for peace and justice, his beliefs about Judaism and its importance, his travels around the world meeting with Jewish community leaders and helping to rescue Soviet Jews, Israel as an influence on his life and, most of all, what he has learned about life from us, his congregants. Even if you’ve known Rabbi Rachlis for decades, you’ll be surprised by what you’ll learn!
