Sue Penn

Sue Penn is the Director of Membership and Congregational Learning at University Synagogue, where she oversees the Living Judaism (Religious School) and Youth Programs, Adult Education, US Bridges and Membership Recruitment and Engagement.

Sue has a California K-12 Credential, a Master’s Degree in Education and spent many years teaching in California Jewish Day Schools. She lives in Irvine with her husband of 28 years and three wonderful children. She has been recognized and honored as an innovative Jewish Educator and is committed to personalizing every learner’s Jewish education, to ensure that they maximize their potential and find their place in Jewish Community.

Sue believes in the value of community and is committed to building programs and comfortable entry places for all people. For this reason, Sue conceived of and built the Living Judaism religious education program at University Synagogue, continuing to update and enhance the content, keeping it relevant and state-of-the-art.

Some of Sue’s accomplishments include:

  • President of the National Board of the Reconstructionist Educators of North America (RENA)
  • Co-President on the Board of the Jewish Educators Association Association of Orange County, California
  • Writing a monthly column in the Orange County JLife magazine
  • Member of the American Association of Educators
